Land administration is one of the heavily loaded administrative sectors of Nepal. In one estimate every year more than 450000 registration and other land related transaction are furnished from 83-district land revenue and 83 survey offices. There are nearly 20 million of parcel record (Kitta) owned by more than 6.5 million land owners, tenant record, land transaction and a sizeable number of mortgage record (Rokka) have to be computerized. Beside these parcel record 80570 spatial data (Kittanapi Naksa) and 4693702 pages of field book and other Avilekh have also to be computerized.
The work nature of the department is land based information technology. Research and development of appropriate software and hard ware in land administration and archive is its prime responsibility. To accomplish this responsibility DoLIA has developed and administered modern land information system in close cooperation with departments, land reform and management and survey
For the successful operation of land information and archive system throughout the country a Steering Committee under the chairmanship of the minister has formed for the formulation of necessary plans and programs and policy guidelines.
